As the City continues to expand testing capacity to ensure all New Yorkers get tested for COVID-19 often, the NYC Test & Trace Corps today announced a partnership with Etta Salon in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, to host a one-day mobile testing site for the local community.

Etta salon has been beautifying Brooklyn residents since 2015. Always an active part of the community, they wanted to do more during these trying times. Incredibly, they partnered with New York Health + Hospitals to host a free pop-up Covid testing site. The first 25 people were given complimentary haircut certificates to the salon as an incentive. “While the large-scale testing sites we’ve been operating since May have proven successful, this new self-swab testing approach allows us to utilize our presence in communities, build new partnerships and bring testing closer to home in the neighborhoods that need it most,” said NYC Test & Trace Corps Chief Operating Officer Chris Keeley. “We know that accessible and accurate testing is essential to the long-term health of New York City.”

Etta Salon owner Rachel Grunau said she saw the pop-up test site as a way to give back to her community. The first 25 people who showed up to be tested in the six-hour window were given free gift cards to the salon.

Etta Salon tells News 12 they wanted to help their community by providing more testing opportunities. Since the area was declared an orange zone in Brooklyn with higher COVID-19 cases, the owners decided to take part in the effort for the community.
