Kara began her career as a hair stylist in St. Louis Mo in 2001. She learned from a great team of stylists, as well as her peers and mentors at Rusk Inc. Kara worked as a platform artist and educator for the company and traveled the U.S, as well as the U.K., to share her knowledge with fellow stylists. She made the move to NYC and worked with Soon Beauty Lab for a few years while earning a degree in Visual Presentation and Exhibition Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology. Her creativity and design eye served her well in her brief career in window display. Her passion for hair cutting and coloring brought her back to the industry. After about a year at Whistle Salon in the East Village, she opened a salon in Crown Heights Brooklyn. Deck was very successful and the experience she gained as a business owner/salon manager was invaluable in starting this new venture, Etta Salon. She is so very excited to have her very own salon in beautiful Bed Stuy! It is her dream come true and she is eager to create a home for stylists and clients to achieve their hair goals together.
